Ingredients
- 2–3 lbs Folsom Farm Beef Bones (knuckle, marrow, rib, oxtail, or neck bones)
- Salt (to taste)
- Water (enough to cover bones in the pot)
Instructions
1. Roast the Bones
- Preheat oven to 425°F.
- Place bones in a casserole dish and roast for 30 minutes, turning halfway through.
- This step adds richness and deepens the broth’s flavor.
2. Transfer to Pot
- Move browned bones to a large stockpot or crock pot.
- Pour in any juices from the roasting dish.
3. Simmer the Broth
- Add enough water to fully cover the bones.
- Bring to a boil, then immediately reduce to a low simmer.
- Add salt and stir.
- Simmer uncovered for at least 4 hours—up to 24 hours for maximum nutrients.
- Taste and adjust salt as needed.
4. Strain and Store
- Remove bones and strain broth into storage jars.
- Store in the fridge (up to 1 week) or freezer (up to 6 months).
